e-mail Support.
Chrispyfur.net has one main mail server which handles all incoming mail and stores it until you pick it up.
You can pick up your email with an email program such as outlook express or Eudora, or you can use our webmail client which provides you with access to your email from anywhere on the internet.
If you would like to set up your email software on your home/work computer, there are four things you need to tell your email software.
Receiving your email
To collect your email from our servers, you will need to know:-
- The name of our incoming mail server (mail.chrispyfur.net)
- Your Username
- Your Password
If you have fogotten your username or password, please call us on 07968-542455.
Sending email
For SENDING mail you must use your internet provider (Freeserve, BT, or whoever you have chosen to use) who will provide you with the name of their outgoing mail server.
You will need to put this server name in the relevant section of your e-mail program settings. Here are some examples from the most popular Internet companies:-
- smtp.orange.co.uk
- out.talk21.com
- mail.ntlworld.co.uk
Some internet companies also require you to enter a username and password into the outgoing mail server settings, some do not.
If you have any trouble sending email through your internet providers servers, we may be able to provide outgoing mail services for you. To do this, you must have an internet connection with a fixed I.P address, this is a free option with many ADSL broadband companies.
If you wish to get ADSL broadband, we recommend Eclipse Internet who have provides us with very reliable and well supported broadband for over two years now
SPAM filtering
We use the open-source SPAM filtering tool spamassassin to allow you to filter as much junk mail as we can into a junk mail folder in your email client.
Somewhere in your email program there will be an option to set up rules. To filter your junk mail, please create a folder called "junk" and create the following rule.
IF subject CONTAINS ***SPAM*** MOVE message to FOLDER junk
Here is an example for users of Apple's mail program.
For Windows users of Outlook Express, select the "local folders" folder in the left hand list, and then select File->New->Folder to create your junk folder
Then select Tools->Message rules->Mail and create a rule as described.
